Description

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) provides specialist mental health and learning disability services to a population of over 1.6 million people living across Norfolk and Suffolk. Our hardworking, committed, and dedicated workforce of over 5,000 staff provide care across more than 50 locations, with our biggest bases at Hellesdon Hospital, Norwich, Wedgwood House, Bury St Edmunds, and Woodlands Unit in Ipswich. Our service users and carers are at the heart of all we do; we use their views and experiences to shape our services and enhance all aspects of our care.

Over recent years we have struggled to provide the quality of care that we would wish to, and that our service users and carers deserve. However, our improvement and transformation journey is well underway, and there is much to be proud of at NSFT, with positive signs as we enhance the clinical outcomes our service users experience and continue to improve experience of care. Our CQC rating improved from ‘Inadequate’ to ‘Requires Improvement’ in our latest inspection, with a ‘Good’ rating in the Caring domain, and significant improvements were noted at all levels in the Trust.

Our vision for the future is ambitious; we recently refreshed our strategy Improving Together as we work to provide safer, kinder, and better care. We believe in ‘working together for better mental health’ and we work closely with health and care partners and voluntary sector organisations to transform mental health care and ensure the people of Norfolk and Suffolk get help and support in the right place for them, when they need it, to stay mentally and emotionally well.

We are now seeking an experienced Chief People Officer to join our Board and lead the delivery of our People Strategy as we develop an open, supportive, inclusive, and learning culture. This is an excellent opportunity to establish the direction of HR and People services across the Trust, enabling NSFT to be known as an exemplar employer and a great place to work. You will bring significant leadership experience in complex, multi-stakeholder, and highly distributed healthcare environments, with a proven track record of leading and delivering culture change and organisational development, improving staff engagement, and creating empowering, innovative, and inclusive environments.

Well-established in working at or near to Board level, you will bring significant experience in leading and driving transformation and organisational development, and the ability to influence across organisational boundaries as an inspirational and values-driven leader. Most importantly, you will share our values and ambition to shape high quality health and care services for the future. This is an exceptional opportunity to shape the strategic direction and culture of our organisation as we continue to progress and make a meaningful difference for our people, and the populations we serve.

We want our Board to provide a broad spectrum of lived experience and are keen to attract candidates who can bring diverse perspectives. We welcome expressions of interest from the widest possible range of backgrounds, particularly those who are under-represented at Board level in the NHS.
