Description

‘Working together for better mental health’

About Us

Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (NSFT) provides mental health and learning disability care for people across Norfolk and Suffolk. We are dedicated to providing high quality care with compassion, delivering many of the NHS services that are provided outside of hospital and in the community. We have clinical teams providing services in inpatient, community and primary care settings and support a population of just over 1.6 million people with a dedicated workforce of over 5,000 staff. Our biggest bases are at Hellesdon Hospital, Norwich, Wedgwood House, Bury St Edmunds and Woodlands Unit in Ipswich but our staff are based in more than 50 locations.

Our Future Leadership Structure will see our clinical teams working more closely with partners at place level alongside strengthening clinical and professional leadership. We are also developing a Clinical Transformation Programme alongside our partners to enhance the clinical outcomes our service users experience as well as continuing to improve experience of care.

We know that we are at an early stage of our improvement and transformation journey and that we still have much more to do. The creation of our five locality groups is a key step towards transforming the way in which we work and provide care to those who need us.

We believe in ‘working together for better mental health’. We’re working closely with health and care partners and voluntary sector organisations to transform mental health care to ensure the people of Norfolk and Suffolk get help and support in the right place for them, when they need it, to stay mentally and emotionally well.

The Opportunity

This role is one of four Director roles in the Corporate Nursing Structure. These individuals all report into the Chief Nurse and will work closely with each other, as well as members of the corporate nursing team and wider nursing workforce in our localities.

The post holder must be a registered nurse and is accountable for providing senior, credible, professional advice and support to the Chief Nurse and other professionals across the Trust, acting as a professional lead with oversight for Patient Safety and Clinical Risk as NHS Patient Safety Specialist. You will ensure that patient safety, service user experience, and quality is appropriately prioritised and considered in the work of the organisation.

As the senior lead for patient safety, you will work with many people who already have specific patient safety responsibilities, and you will lead in supporting and overseeing work to make patient safety a core element of training for every member of staff in the Trust. This will include creating and developing strong engagement with staff and patients to help grow the understanding of patient safety in order to inform and measure future improvement.

You will ensure that patient experience and intelligence from safety incidents informs future plans for service redesign and service improvement via a network of patient experts, including Patient Safety Partners. You will act as line manager for Lead Nurses as delegated by the Chief Nurse and build and maintain good working relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders on issues relating to patient safety.

A Registered Nurse, you will need to demonstrate experience of working at a senior leadership level in an NHS provider organisation, as well as an understanding of strategic issues relating to nursing, patient safety, safeguarding, and quality in a mental health setting.  You will be enthused about the opportunity to lead on all elements of safer care, and to build relationships across the organisation and with our partners.

If you have a reputation for leadership, people development, safety, quality and improvement, alongside a passion for improving outcomes with a focus on equity and inclusion to ensure that mental health provision has parity across our partners, then please do consider applying for this role. We are determined to create a safer, kinder, and better organisation that our service users, families, carers, partner organisations, stakeholders and staff can be proud of.
